Choose an Expression, Then Check the Cutouts

A jack-o’-lantern face works through a few recognizable shapes: eyes, a nose and a mouth. Start with Classic Jack-o’-Lantern or Friendly Pumpkin Smile for broad features. Crooked grins, stitched mouths and winking eyes introduce narrower connections that need more care.

Use Beginner or Easy First above to find the simpler patterns. The difficulty label describes the drawing, not a promise that every pumpkin will carve the same way. Check teeth, eye corners and thin white connections on a paper proof.

Fit the Face to a Real Pumpkin

Hold the print against the usable front of your pumpkin. Keep the eyes and mouth away from steep curves, deep ribs or damaged areas. The library PDF uses a 150 mm artwork square; the face occupies part of that square. Customize the design to choose another artwork width.

Tape the outside margin in short sections, mark the outlines and remove the paper before carving. Cut black shapes and keep white connections intact. For cats, bats and other silhouettes, browse the full pumpkin carving collection. To use your own face drawing or photo, open the pumpkin stencil maker.

Choosing Your Jack-o’-Lantern Stencils

Choose the expression first, then check the narrowest teeth and eye corners. Broad openings and fewer small details are easier to transfer to a curved pumpkin. Beginner patterns are a useful starting point, but test the paper against your own pumpkin before carving.

Download, Print and Cut at the Right Size

Choose A4 or US Letter and download the PDF directly. No account is needed for these library files. Each PDF places the pattern in a 150 mm square and includes a 25 mm test line. Choose “Actual size” or 100% in your print dialog, and measure the line before transferring the design. Black areas are the cutouts; white areas are kept.

The PNG is 2100 × 2100 pixels. For another size, open the pattern in the editor. Saving projects and downloading edited artwork require a free account; PNG and single-page PDF are free. Vector export and full-size tiled printing are Pro features; see the plans page for available upgrades.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which jack-o’-lantern face should I choose for a first carving?

Start with Classic Jack-o’-Lantern, Friendly Pumpkin Smile or another Beginner pattern. Broad openings and fewer small teeth make the outline easier to transfer. Check the actual size against your pumpkin before choosing.

Are these jack-o’-lantern PDFs free to print?

Yes. Choose A4 or US Letter and download the ready-made PDF without an account. PNG downloads are also free. If you change the design in the editor, a free account is needed to download that edited version.

Can I change the eyes, mouth or size of a face?

Choose Customize on the face you want. The editor loads that exact pattern. Use the brush or eraser to change its cutouts, check loose pieces and set a new artwork width before export.

Why are there white strips across some eyes or teeth?

Those strips are bridges that keep enclosed pieces connected. Leave the white material in place and cut the black shapes. Removing the bridges can leave eyes or tooth details with nothing holding them to the pumpkin.

Is a pumpkin outline the same as a jack-o’-lantern stencil?

No. An outline is usually a blank pumpkin silhouette for tracing or coloring. These patterns include facial features and prepared cutouts for a stencil or carving project. Preview the complete face before downloading.
